Israel Pilgrimage,
Group #6

*The pictures below are links; clicking on them will take you to a larger version of that picture.

Sunday, July 10th:
After a nice Shabbat and a fun night at the disco last night, Group 6 packed and loaded their bus this morning and headed south. Their first stop was Kibbutz Sa’ad, where they ate lunch, and learned about the kibbutz life, and about what the Nativ Leadership Program does each year there for three months. From there they drove to Mitzpe Ramon where they were introduced to their guide and began to get a feel for the desert. They then began their Outdoor Experience, in which they will make dinner in the desert and sleep under the stars of the Negev.

Monday, July 11th:
Group 6 woke up early this morning to the bright sun of the desert. They davened and ate breakfast, loaded the bus, and drove to a cliff overlooking the great Machtesh Ramon to go repelling. Although some of the pilgrims were apprehensive about climbing down a mountain, the view and the support of their friends encouraged most of them to go. They climbed in their harnesses, and their guide explained the safe way to repel, or “snappel” in Hebrew. In the afternoon they went to an Alpaca farm and went to Mitzpe Ramon to see the beautiful machtesh. They stayed in the Mitzpe Ramon youth hostel for the night.

Tuesday, July 12th:
Group 6 left this morning and drove to the home of David Ben-Gurion at Sde Boker. They toured his small home and learned about this first Prime Minister of Israel. They also visited his grave overlooking the Zin Canyon. They then hiked through the beautiful canyon of Ein Ovdat, climbing up the ladders on the rock. They then drove to Eilat where they will spend the night and tomorrow.

Wednesday, July 13th:
Group 6 spent a fun day in hot Eilat! They began at the Underwater Observatory where they saw sharks, tortoises, and loads of fish. They then decided to join the fish for a bit, and went snorkeling with them on the coral reef. Following lunch, they had some free time. Tonight, they will go on the very fun Disco Boat Ride where they will dance and enjoy the water of the Red Sea.

Thursday, July 14th:
Group 6 loaded the bus today and left Eilat. They first went to Park Timna where they saw lots of ancient copper mines and geological phenomena. In the afternoon, the group rode camels in the desert, drank tea and coffee, had a delicious dinner, and is sleeping outside in a Bedouin tent in Mamshit, where they will learn about the nomads’ lifestyle.

Friday, July 15th:
Group 6 began their day in Ein Yorkeam - a beautiful spring at the Negev desert, where they took a stroll and splashed in the water there. From there they drove to Arad, where they will spend Shabbat. The group is looking forward to relaxing and not having such a time-pressured day tomorrow. They will sing, pray, and study together.
