Sunday, July 10th

This Shabbat, Group 3 relaxed and had a chance pray at Moriya Masorti congregation and meet teens from Noam –USY’s sister youth movement in Israel.  This morning they departed for their volunteer placements and had a very successful morning. After lunch back at the institute, they had some free time to rest before they went to the Carmelit Subway to visit Wadi Nisnas and meet with young leaders of Arab Youth groups. After dinner they had a work- shop, “The art to paper cutting,” a skill that can help in future volunteer projects. This evening they met up for action sub- groups.

Sunday, July 10th

After a great Shabbat together, the group left Jerusalem this morning and headed for a few days in the south. They drove to Kibbutz Saad where they met Israeli teens their age. The played icebreaker games and had a chance to hear about the life of teen on Kibbutz.  Their second stop was at Mitzpe Ramon. There they visited the Alpaca farm and began a 24 hour outdoor desert experience. After lunch, the group went on a hike and began to learn about desert life. Tonight they made their own dinner and went stargazing before sleeping under the stars.

Sunday, July 10th

After a relaxing Shabbat, Group 1 departed to the South. First they headed to the Archaeological Dig Seminar where they dug to try and find artifacts from the Second Temple period. They then crawled through Bar Kochba’s secret caves, which were used to plan the Bar Kochba Revolt in 135 CE, against the Roman Empire. After lunch the group spent time at the beautiful swimming pool at Kibbutz Tal Shahar!  They then drove down to the youth hostel in Arad for the night.

Friday, July 8th

This morning Bus H woke up, davened shacharit and learned about the Kedusah section of the amidah. The group then went out and volunteered at the Road Runner Food Bank. At the food bank they sorted food and put breakfast into the backpacks of children who cannot afford a morning meal. The group then visited the International Balloon museum where they learned about hot air balloons. Later on the group went Shabbat shopping and picked up food and decorations for their “On the Road” themed Shabbat. At the hotel the Shabbat committee decorated the room they will use for dinner and later on the wheelniks will come together for their second Shabbat of Wheels. The group had another fun filled week and is looking forward to another spirited Shabbat together. Shabbat Shalom!

Friday, July 8th

Today Bus G davened shachait overlooking the lake. During shacharit they learned about special jewish prayers about the beauty of nature. The group then took a tour of the Harry and David Factory where they saw the company’s peach orchard, learned about the packing process and got some free samples. The group then returned to Portland. Later on the group went Shabbat shopping and picked up food and decorations for their “Day at the Beach” themed Shabbat. At the hotel the Shabbat committee decorated the room they will use for dinner and later on the wheelniks will come together for their first Shabbat of Wheels. Shabbat Shalom!

Friday, July 8th

Today Bus E drove from Nashville to Atlanta. On the way they stopped for a picnic lunch. Later on the wheelniks played a game of whirlyball. Whirlyball, a Wheels favorite, is a game that combines bumper cars, lacrosse, and basketball. Next, Bus E went shabbat shopping and picked up food and decorations for their “Birthday Party” themed Shabbat. At the hotel the Shabbat committee decorated the room they will use for dinner and later on the wheelniks will come together for their second Shabbat of Wheels. The group had another fun filled week and is looking forward to another spirited Shabbat together. Shabbat Shalom!

Friday, July 8th

Today Bus D made the trip from Reno to San Francisco. On the way they stopped in Old Town Sacramento and explored one of the oldest parts of the city. On the remainder of the ride the wheelniks paired up and learned about this week’s Torah portion. Later on the group went Shabbat shopping and picked up food and decorations for their “Candyland” themed Shabbat. At the hotel the Shabbat committee decorated the room they will use for dinner and later on the wheelniks will come together for their third Shabbat of Wheels. The group had another fun filled week and is looking forward to another spirited Shabbat together. Shabbat Shalom!
