Sunday, July 10th

After a lovely Shabbat, the group woke up for their last day in Poland. They started with the Heroism Trail which highlights such sites as Mila 18 and the Rapaport Monument, both tributes to events such as the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in which even the victims rose up to defend their honor as human beings. The trail ends at the Umshlagplatz, the spot at which the Jews of Warsaw were gathered before being deported to the Treblinka death camp. The group had an early dinner and headed to the airport. The group is excited to be flying to Israel tonight!

Sunday, July 10th

After a relaxing Shabbat, the group departed for their week in the south. They headed to the Archaeological Dig Seminar where they dug to try and find artifacts from the Second Temple period. They then crawled through Bar Kochba’s secret caves, which were used to plan the Bar Kochba Revolt in 135 CE, against the Roman Empire. After lunch, the group spent time at the swimming pool! Then they headed to Eilat -the southernmost tip of Israel.

Sunday, July 10th

The group spent their day around the Kinneret. They hiked down the Arbel, a fortress from the Second Temple Period. From there they visited the cemetery by the Kinneret where the famous poet Rahel is buried, as well as Naomi Shemer, famous for her song “Jerusalem of Gold.”  Then they cooled off from the hot day with a swim in the Kinneret! In the afternoon, the group rode donkeys and each had a turn to drive and ride. They dressed up like ancient donkey drivers and learned about the history of Kfar Kedem. Then they returned to Kibbutz for a BBQ and a swim with group 4!

Sunday, July 10th

After a lovely Shabbat, the group spent the day in the Upper Galilee. They began at an overlook at Metula, and then went on a water hike in Nahal Snir. This afternoon the group had a blast kayaking in the Jordan River and from there they went shopping at the famous Neot factory where they had fun trying on and buying sandals. They returned to Kibbutz for a BBQ and a swim with group 6!

Sunday, July 10th

This Shabbat, Group 3 relaxed and had a chance pray at Moriya Masorti congregation and meet teens from Noam –USY’s sister youth movement in Israel.  This morning they departed for their volunteer placements and had a very successful morning. After lunch back at the institute, they had some free time to rest before they went to the Carmelit Subway to visit Wadi Nisnas and meet with young leaders of Arab Youth groups. After dinner they had a work- shop, “The art to paper cutting,” a skill that can help in future volunteer projects. This evening they met up for action sub- groups.

Sunday, July 10th

After a great Shabbat together, the group left Jerusalem this morning and headed for a few days in the south. They drove to Kibbutz Saad where they met Israeli teens their age. The played icebreaker games and had a chance to hear about the life of teen on Kibbutz.  Their second stop was at Mitzpe Ramon. There they visited the Alpaca farm and began a 24 hour outdoor desert experience. After lunch, the group went on a hike and began to learn about desert life. Tonight they made their own dinner and went stargazing before sleeping under the stars.

After a relaxing Shabbat, Group 1 departed to the South. First they headed to the Archaeological Dig Seminar where they dug to try and find artifacts from the Second Temple period. They then crawled through Bar Kochba’s secret caves, which were used to plan the Bar Kochba Revolt in 135 CE, against the Roman Empire. After lunch the group spent time at the beautiful swimming pool at Kibbutz Tal Shahar!  They then drove down to the youth hostel in Arad for the night.
