Sunday, July 17th

After returning from a relaxing and fun free weekend, Group 6 headed south for the week. They stopped at the Hazerim Israel’s Air Force Museum. Since the first days of Israel’s air force, Israel purchased planes from all over the world. Brigadier Jacob Turner, who was the commander of the Hazerim base in 1977, organized the effort to create an air force museum and gathered together old planes from throughout Israel’s history. From there they drove down to Eilat, the most southern tip of Israel.

Sunday, July 17th

After a fun and relaxing free weekend, the group headed to Tel Aviv this morning. Their first stop was Rabin’s square, the site of Yitzchak Rabin’s final hours, as he went to a peace rally and was then assassinated. The group learned about his history and had a program about the political climate in Israel during that time. They sang the song “Shir La’shalom,” a song about peace. Later on, Group 4 walked through the allies of old Jaffa. In the afternoon they visited the Independence Hall, where David Ben Gurion declared Israel an independent country. This evening they drove to the city of Modiin for the Jewish Agency- Lapid youth event. They joined 4000 youth from Israel and the Jewish communities around the world. They were greeted by Minister Yuli Edelstein and by the head of the Jewish Agency Natan Sharansky. Later they celebrated by watching a performance by the famous Israeli band Hadag Nachash and by participating the biggest flash mob in Israel’s history. After the event they drove to Kibbutz Harel for the night.

Sunday, July 17th

After a fun and relaxing free weekend, the group drove up to the mystical city of Tzfat. Among the many people who came from Tzfat are the prominent kabbalists, Isaac Luria and Moshe Kordovero. Besides the kabbalists, Tzfat also attracted numerous other Jewish scholars and spiritualists, including Joseph Caro, the author of the Shulchan Aruch and Shlomo Halevi Alkabetz, composer of the Sabbath hymn Lecha Dodi. The group had a tour of the city and synagogues. Group 3 also had an opportunity to go shopping at the famous candle factory. They then traveled to Tel Chai their base for the next few days. This evening they had an introduction to their new Volunteer projects in the area.

Sunday, July 17th

After a fun and relaxing free weekend, the group headed south for the week. Their first stop was at the Alpaca Ranch. The Alpaca Farm is the only farm in the world where over 400 exotic alpacas & llamas are raised and where the entire process of growing and spinning them can be observed. Then they finished the day by driving to Eilat, the most southern tip of Israel.

Friday, July 15th

Today Bus A drove from the Grand Canyon to Phoenix. On the way they learned about the parsha and caught up on some sleep. The group then went through their normal pre-Shabbat routine and prepared for their “Winnie the Potter” themed Shabbat which is, of course, a cross between Winnie the Pooh and Harry Potter. Shabbat shalom and enjoy the weekend!

Friday, July 15th

This morning Bus H learned about the first line of the Shema during shacharit. The group then made their way to San Diego. On the ride they learned a new song for Shabbat. Bus H then went through their normal pre-Shabbat routine and prepared for their Hawaii themed Shabbat. Shabbat shalom and enjoy the weekend!
