Thursday, July 21st

This morning the group woke up for their final day of their volunteer projects in Kiryat Shmona. After an ending ceremony, the group drove down to Tel Aviv. They visited Independence Hall, where David Ben Gurion declared Israel an independent state in 1948. Then they went to the Olympic museum. Their next stop was the open market of Shuk Ha’Carmel were they had free time to walk around and do some shopping. Tonight the group spent the night in Tel Aviv.

Thursday, July 21st

This morning the group went on a fun water hike at Nachal Snir, and then had a blast kayaking in the Jordan River. Next they went shopping at the famous Naot factory where they had fun trying on and buying sandals. Their last site of the day was at Agmon Hahula- the site became the second home for thousands of migrating birds that pass through the area in the autumn and spring, as well as the home of many native birds, making it a popular sight for bird-watchers from Israel and abroad. They then headed back to Hannaton for dinner and a group activity.

Thursday, July 21st

The group started their day learning about Mitzvah work with Danny Siegel. They drove to Rehovot. Half of the group went to learn about the center for Seeing- Eye dogs while the other half learned about animal therapy. After lunch the group came back together to pick onions which will be transported to organizations serving those in need throughout the country. When they got back to Jerusalem they brought Danny their items for donation and continued learning about various mitzvah heroes. They then enjoyed a BBQ with groups 6 and 8, a lecture with Rabbi Paul Freedman and a stand-up comedy show with Joel Chasnoff. After a long day the group went out for a fun and relaxing night out on the town.

Wednesday, July 20th

This morning the Bus E wheelniks continued their learning and davened shacharit each at their own pace. The group the boarded the bus and, on the ride,  they rested from their early wake up. Their first stop was in Wilmington, North Carolina where they had free time at the Independence Mall. Next, the wheelniks toured the Screen Gems movie and TV studios. There, they learned about some of the famous movies filmed on site and went on the set of the TV show One Tree Hill. The group then got back on the bus and drove to Greensboro. In Greensboro they stopped for dinner at the American Hebrew Academy and had a tour of the facility. In the evening Bus E had a video chat with the person who runs the USY Facebook page and USY’s International President.

Wednesday, July 20th

This morning Bus H learned about Az Yashir during Shacharit and headed out into LA. The group spent most of the day at Universal Studios theme park enjoying all of the movie themed rides, shops and shows. In the afternoon the group went window shopping on Rodeo Drive where they saw some of the world’s most expensive stores. Later the wheelniks went out to see all their favorite stars at the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Afterwards Bus H had free time and dinner on Pico Boulevard. In the evening they had free time to explore the boardwalk and beach on the Santa Monica pier.

Wednesday, July 20th

Today Bus D left the Grand Canyon and headed to Albuquerque. On the way they stopped off for breakfast and watched a movie. When they arrived, the wheelniks had time to explore the shops and area of Old Town Albuquerque. In the evening they ate dinner at a local synagogue and then went to the Hinkle Family Fun Center where they rode go carts and bumper cars and played laser tag and arcade games.

Wednesday, July 20th

This morning Bus C davened Shacharit and headed out into LA. The group spent most of the day at Universal Studios theme park enjoying all of the movie themed rides, shops and shows. Afterwards the wheelniks had free time and dinner on Pico Boulevard. The group then returned to their hotel where they loaded the bus with supplies for the second half of their trip.
